    Enough Abuse

    The Enough Abuse Campaign is a grassroots movement that originated in Massachusetts by the Massachusetts Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Partnership and is gaining momentum across the country.

    Recognized by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as "...a trailblazing effort to prevent child sexual abuse by building a movement of concerned citizens, community by community," the Campaign has been adopted by Children's Home Society of South Dakota in partnership with the Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment for distribution and training throughout the state of South Dakota

    About The Enough Abuse Campaign

    The Enough Abuse Campaign is a movement-building initiative working nationally and in states to prevent child sexual abuse by:

    • Educating parents and the public;
    • Training child/family-serving professionals;
    • Promoting prevention policies in schools and youth organizations
    • Advocating for laws to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation

    Citizens, communities, schools and youth-serving organizations benefit from the Campaign’s training and policy work around safe child policies that support identifying and responding to boundary-violating behaviors before they can escalate to reportable, illegal sexual offenses. Legislative proposals supported and promoted by the Campaign are succeeding in giving survivors opportunities to seek justice through the courts, holding abusers accountable, and preventing the future sexual abuse of more children.

    The Enough Abuse Campaign continues to partner with community, state and national leaders, citizens, survivors, providers and funders to build the movement to end child sexual abuse in communities everywhere.

    This is the Enough Abuse Campaign's core training curriculum and can be adapted according to audience, level of expertise of participants, and length of available workshop time. Training will focus on:

    • Defining Child Abuse as a Public Health Problem
    • Recognizing Conditions that Support Child Sexual Abuse
    • Understanding Grooming
    • How to Respond to and Prevent Child Sexual Abuse
    • How to Respond to Disclosures
    • Mandatory Reporting

    This Enough Abuse training option is intended specifically to educate school administrators, counselors, teachers, school coaches, parents, and other school employees. Training will focus on:

    • Defining the Nature and Scope of Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Exploitation
    • Preventing Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct in Schools
    • Legal Obligations of Personnel to Report Child Sexual Abuse
    • How to Respond to Disclosures
    • Mandatory Reporting

    Audience: All School-Related Personnel

    • Guidelines for Interactions
    • Observable, Interruptible, and Appropriate Work
    • Handling Disclosures and Reporting Child Sexual Abuse

    Understanding and Responding to the Sexual Behaviors of Children

    This Enough Abuse training curriculum is designed to help parents and professionals prevent child-on-child sexual abuse. Training will focus on:

    • Identifying "Developmentally Expected" Sexual Behaviors of Children and Youth
    • Distinguish Developmentally Expected Behaviors from Inappropriate Behaviors
    • How to Respond to All Sexual Behaviors in a way that Promotes the Healthy Development of Children

    It's Not Just Jenna:A True Story of Child Sexual Abuse and Survival

    It’s Not Just Jenna” is a compelling 30-minute video featuring the true story of a family whose lives were changed after 16-year old Jenna Quinn revealed that she had been sexually abused by a trusted family friend. The Quinn family’s willingness to share their journey of discovery will help others learn how to prevent child sexual abuse by education.

    “What if…?” card sets are an interactive teaching tool designed to help adults evaluate a child’s understanding of challenging situations and help children learn to respond; participants will receive a free set of “What If…?” cards.

    In the final session, participants will learn how to receive a disclosure–and how to offer support to the individual and the investigation.

    Objectives:

    • Learn behaviors to be aware of in adults that might indicate they pose a risk to children
    • Understand ways sexual abusers “groom” or establish trust with potential victims and their families
    • Recognize behaviors to be aware of in children or teens that might indicate they are being or have been sexually abused
    • Know why it’s difficult for victims of child sexual abuse to disclose
    • Learn how to respond when we see behaviors in an adult, child, or teen that indicate they might be involved in sexual abuse.
