Children’s Home Society (CHS) is proud to announce that Heather Powell is the new Vice President of Human Resources.

“Heather is a wonderful addition to our team at CHS,” said Chief Operating Officer Allison Sanderson. “She brings a deep passion for nonprofit work and views HR as a critical tool for helping employees thrive while fulfilling the organization’s mission.”

Since joining CHS in March on 2025, Powell says she feels inspired by the dedication of staff across the organization. She is determined to promote a positive environment that motivates employees to continue to make a lasting impact.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be part of CHS and to support employees who bring hope and healing to the children and families we serve,” said Powell. “Helping to create an environment where employees feel supported, valued and able to do their best work is what makes this role so meaningful.

Powell previously served three and a half years as Chief Experience Officer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire, where she led marketing, resource development and HR.  Her background includes a strong focus on employee engagement, policy optimization and leadership development—where she has consistently driven meaningful results.

Outside of work, Powell is an active member of the Sioux Falls Downtown Rotary, where she serves on the District Conference Planning Committee. Beginning in July, she will join the Rotary Board and be the Member Recruitment Committee Chair. In addition to her Rotary involvement, Powell is also a member of Sioux Empire SHRM and serves on the National Undergraduate Scholarship Committee for Pi Beta Phi Foundation.
